Fertility and Reflexology
One of the most rewarding parts of my work as a Reflexologist is when I help clients in their journey to conceive. Hearing the news that they now have a positive pregnancy test, after months, sometimes years, of trying, is so fulfilling, it often brings me close to tears. Knowing that I have not only helped a client achieve their dream but in fact help create a life, humbles me in the power of Reflexology.
And I for one should know, as whilst training to become a Reflexologist, we used to practise on each other. And almost at the end of the course, I too fell pregnant without actively trying. This amazing experience went on to endorse my love of Reflexology and how I could use my knowledge and skills to help other people.
So how does it work…… Reflexology is an ancient holistic therapy which is all about achieving equilibrium and harmony to the body, mind and soul. Aside from releasing oxytocin and the endorphins responsible for intense relaxation, Reflexology provides a space away from the speed of modern day life and a chance to offload emotionally, physically and mentally. And no two reflexology treatments are the same so the chosen points address the needs of the client on that particular day.
Many couples find the process of trying to conceive, a particularly stressful one, especially when all those around them seem to become pregnant with ease. (Notice I say “seem” as we really do not know what their particular journey has been).
This is totally understandable, especially when some have had very traumatic experiences that bring an element of fear. Reflexology can really help to soothe the mind and ease these stresses away.
Some couples may also experience fertility problems which could be as a result of issues with ovulation, medical conditions, sperm quality or sperm count, clotting disorders and many more. And, equally as frustrating, there just does not seem to be any reason at all.
For me, stress is a major factor. We all hear the stories of how as soon as a couple decide to go on a world trip instead of trying to conceive, then fall pregnant straightaway. Well did you know that our bodies are actually designed to PREVENT conception from occurring during times of extreme stress?? The presence of adrenalin, actually signals to our body that conditions are not ideal for conception and inhibits us from utilising the hormone progesterone which is essential for fertility. Furthermore, it can cause the pituitary gland to release higher levels of prolactin, which can cause infertility to occur. Its no wonder that this makes the chances of conceiving so hard!
But the power of reducing stress really is within us. And so , we must therefore adjust our lives accordingly so that we try and remove the stressors as best we can and add in wonderfully, relaxation inducing activities such as exercise, yoga, Reflexology and lots of sleep, (which the Reflexology can also help with). Why not take the first step today and book a treatment with us at Sleeping Beauty Therapies… You will not be disappointed!
